Former KU Golfer Gary Woodland Falls One Shot Short in Greenbrier Classic

Gary Woodland of Topeka, Kan., who played golf as a Kansas Jayhawk in college, cut one stroke off of his two-shot deficit after the third round but that was a close as he got, finishing one shot back of the leaders at the Greenbrier Classic in White Sulpher, W.Va.

Woodland shot a four-round score of 271 to end up in a five-way tie for fourth place, his third best finish on the PGA Tour this season.

PGA Tour rookie Scott Stallings won a one-hole playoff over Bill Haas and Bob Estes to win the tournament at Greenbrier with a 10-under score of 270

Kansas City-native Tom Pernice Jr. finished in a tie for 49th with a score of 280. He fired a one-under 69 in the final round on Sunday.

Michael Letzig of.Richmond, Mo., tied for 32nd with a score of 277.
