A $500K winner's purse is at stake in today's 72nd Running of the Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park, and that means some elite horses and jockeys are out to claim such a prize. The mile-and-a-quarter thoroughbred race has been around since 1938 and is a storied race which boasts some amazing horses in its history, including Seabiscuit as the first ever winner of the race in '38 and wins by Affirmed and Citation as well.
This year's race features only eight horses who are vying not only for the winner's purse, but also an automatic entry to the 2011 Breeder's Cup Challenge Race is at stake. ESPN will carry a full hour of coverage leading up to the race and continuing through the finish at 6pm CT.
