On Thursday the Royals finally announced an agreement on a contract with Texas high schooler Patrick Leonard. The 6’4" 200 lb Leonard projects as either a corner infielder or outfielder as he makes his way up the ranks.
Leonard had previously been discussed following the draft in June. The contract agreement was $600,000 while the slot money for his selection was just over $161,000 which is why the deal took so long to be announced. In joining the Kansas City organization, Leonard is passing on a scholarship to the University of Georgia.
We will have another look back at the Royals 2011 draft next week as the deadline to sign draft choices, including Bubba Starling, is Monday August 15th.
