Former KU Golfer 8 Shots Back In Final FedEx Cup Event

Gary Woodland of Topeka is eight shots off the lead after shooting an opening-round two-over-par 72 in the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, the final stop in the four-event playoff to determine the winner of the FedEx Cup.

Woodland, who played collegiate golf at Kansas, came into the Tour Championship in 11th place in the FedEx standings. Although the odds are extremely long, Woodland is still in the hunt for this year’s FedEx Cup, but he not only would have to win in Atlanta to do so, he would also need a lot of help from those ahead of him in the standings.

Keegan Bradley was the leader after the first round in the Tour Championship with a six-under 64, good for a two-shot lead. Web Simpson, who leads in the standings, shot an opeing-round 69
