Royals Prospect Bubba Starling Reportedly Cited For Possession Of Alcohol In Arizona

It’s a minor offense, but it’s still important to note that the first step of Bubba Starling into his Kansas City Royals career is a wrong one. Today, Soren Petro from 810 WHB reported that Starling got himself into some legal troubles recently and the Royals confirmed the rumor.

Petro notes via Twitter, “Sources told me last night… and the Royals confirmed this morning Bubba Starling received a citation for minor in possession in Arizona.” There’s no reason to doubt the report, and if true, it’s definitely not what a team wants to see from its star draft choice.

Receiving an MIP (minor in possession) charge in Arizona is a Class 3 Misdemeanor and is punishable up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. Likely it will lead to just a bit of probation and perhaps some community service time.

Recently Starling was the Scott Boras client signed at No. 5 overall in the MLB draft.
