Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen has always been among the greatest pass rushers in the NFL. But now he’s chasing greatness on a historic level for the Minnesota Vikings as he chases the single season sack record set at 22.5 by Michael Strahan of the New York Giants ten years ago.
He’s already passed former Vikings star Chris Doleman’s team record of 21, which is second on the all time NFL list, with another 3.5 sacks today against the Chicago Bears, giving him 22 total. He entered today with 18.5 sacks, the highest career total to date for Allen.
To date, Allen now has 104 career sacks in 8 seasons. He was a fourth round choice of the Chiefs back in 2004 after a stellar under the radar career at Idaho State. The Chiefs traded Allen to the Vikes in exchange for the draft picks that became Jamaal Charles among others.
