Jeff Goodman recently took a nice road trip on assignment from CBS Sports to take in several major college basketball games. He came out the other side convinced the best place in the country to watch a game was right here in Lawrence. Specifically he caught the dominant performance by Kansas over Baylor a few days ago and said Allen Fieldhouse was tops of any other venue.
Goodman writes, “My top four venues to watch a game? 1) Allen Fieldhouse 2) Cameron Indoor Stadium 3) Rupp Arena 4) Danforth School. The atmosphere at Kansas was second-to-none, largely because of the look and feel of the venue and also the rabid fans. Kentucky fans are crazier than anywhere else, but Rupp doesn’t compare to Phog Allen. As for Duke, the proximity to the court — and the students — are what makes it elite. As for Danforth, that’s where I get to see my 8-year-old daughter knock down jumpers (or, more realistically, 7-foot set shots).”
