Kansas women's basketball picked fourth in Big 12 preseason poll

Jayhawks expected to be in the second-tier of teams chasing the defending national champion Baylor Bears.

Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Kansas Jayhawks women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 conference this season after the league's preseason poll was released on Wednesday morning.

Only seven votes separate second place from fourth place as the Big 12 has had a recent run of being the deepest conference in America. For the past five seasons, the Big 12 has ranked as the No. 1 conference in RPI.

The defending national champion Baylor Bears were picked first with 81 votes (nine first-place votes) and the Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia Mountaineers followed with 65 votes apiece with Kansas following with 58.

The Texas Longhorns, Iowa St. Cyclones, Oklahoma St. Cowboys, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Kansas St. Wildcats and TCU Horned Frogs rounded out the poll.

The Jayhawks were 8-10 in conference play last season, 21-13 overall. Leading scorers Carolyn Davis (16.9 ppg) and Angel Goodrich (14.0 ppg) both return for the Jayhawks.
