The Kansas State Wildcats took over sole possession of first place in the Big 12 Saturday, escaping Ames, Iowa, with a 27-21 win over Iowa State. The Wildcats improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Kansas State, ranked No. 3 in the latest USA Today Coaches' Poll, got a leg up in the Big 12 standings on West Virginia (5-1, 2-1) when the Mountaineers lost at Texas Tech, 49-14. Joining West Virginia at 2-1 in conference play are Oklahoma, Texas Tech and TCU.
Kansas lost at home to Oklahoma State, 20-14, falling to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 games. The only other team without a conference win is Baylor, who sits at 0-2 and 3-2 overall.
