Adding to any usual stakes when rivals Kansas and Kansas State meet in volleyball is the fact that both teams head into their their Wednesday-night matchup with both teams ranked. This is the first time that both teams are ranked in a Sunflower Showdown.
No. 21 Kansas hosts No. 14 Kansas State Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The Jayhawks (17-3) are off to the best start in program history, tied with the 1991 team for the best start through 20 games. The No. 21 ranking is tied for the highest in Jayhawks history, and has its highest RPI ranking in program history at No. 9.
Both teams are tied for the Big 12 lead in kills per set at 14.24. Kansas barely trails Kansas State for the league lead in assits per set -- 13.39 for the Jayhawks and 13.47 for the Wildcats. Kansas leads the Big 12 in digs per set with 16.23, while the Wildcats are sixth with 14.66.
