Nike announced Wednesday morning that they have officially terminated their business relationship with Lance Armstrong. This move comes after recent days and weeks in which the ongoing doping scandal has reached a fevered pitch. From the Nike website:
"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner. Nike plans to continue support of the Livestrong initiatives created to unite, inspire and empower people affected by cancer."
It will be interesting to see how this plays out locally with LIVESTRONG Park playing a major part of the sports scene in Kansas City. Perhaps the name will change in time, and that's certainly a scenario to watch. For now, things are beginning to unravel professionally for Armstrong as the fallout continues.
