Rice vs. Tulsa football preview: Golden Hurricane expected to roll

Tulsa will be 5-0 in C-USA play with a win over Rice Saturday

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane can move to 5-0 in Conference USA play with a win over Rice at H.A. Chapman Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Owls are winless in conference play, but come off a 34-14 win over Texas-San Antonio. Tulsa beat UTEP 33-11 at home last week.

Tulsa has beaten Rice in each of the last five seasons. With an offense that averages 41.1 points per game - 13th in the nation - going against a Rice defense that has allowed 35.1 ppg, the Golden Hurricane are likely to extend that series winning streak. Tulsa is doing most of its damage on the ground, where Ja'Terian Douglas and Alex Watts have both run for more than 500 yards and Alex Singleton has rushed for more than 400 yards with 13 touchdowns.

The Rice offense averages almost 28 ppg behind quarterback Taylor McHargue, who has run for seven touchdowns and thrown for seven more. The Tulsa defense allows over 25 ppg, but has sacked the quarterback 33 times.

Game time, TV channel: 2:30 p.m. CT, FSN

Point spread: Tulsa is favored by three touchdowns, more or less, depending on the book.
