The 2012 Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon will take place Saturday morning, starting and finishing at 22nd and Grand, across from Crown Center.
The 26.2 mile course begins by heading north up 11th Street through historic downtown Kansas City before taking runners left on Main to head back by the Power & Light District where they'll enjoy a long gradual downhill to Mile 4. Then the course heads through Midtown to the heart of Westport and into the Plaza. From Mile 8 to the race's halfway point, runners will be treated to one of the the most scenic marathon courses anywhere, passing by the waterfalls and fountains of the Stowers Institute as well as several fountains along Brush Creek.
At the halfway point, runners will be treated to another very scenic portion of the route during gentle section with long flat and downhill stretches that spans to Mile 20. The home stretch features a gradual uphill followed by a gradual downhill and a flat finish to Pershing at Crown Center.
