Paul Hefferon won the men's portion of the 2012 Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon on Saturday, while Julie Thornton was victorious on the women's side.
Hefferon finished with a time of 2:31:37, nearly eight minutes ahead of runner-up Nick Caprario. Meanwhile, Thornton's time of 3:07:40 was nearly seven minutes better than second-place finisher Michelle Andrew. Hefferon and Thornton will each take home $1,000 in winnings.

Benson Chesang took home the title in the men's half marathon, completing it in 1:11:12, which was 51 seconds better than Brett Guemmer's time. Kathryn Brake narrowly beat out the women's field with a time 1:26:57. Carlene Mayfield finished just 16 seconds behind the winner. Both Chesang and Brake will pocket $500 in cash.
