2012 BCS Rankings, Week 9: Kansas State rises to No.3

The Wildcats are in a prime position to reach the BCS National Championship Game.

Justin K. Aller

The Kansas State Wildcats are currently in the best possible place when it comes to the BCS rankings after blowing out West Virginia on Saturday. Although Kansas State is ranked fourth in the human polls, the Wildcats are third in the BCS Standings behind Florida and Alabama.

While only the top two teams go to the Championship Game, Florida and Alabama would meet in the SEC Championship game, so at minimum one of them will lose before the end of the season. Alabama also still must play No. 6 LSU and No. 11 Mississippi State, while Florida plays No. 12 Florida State and No. 10 Georgia.

Kansas State does not have as difficult of a schedule left, nor would they have to worry about a conference championship game, which tripped them up in 1998. Kansas State still must play No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 23 Texas.

Kansas State has already beaten No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 19 West Virginia.
