The Kansas Jayhawks landed another stand-out recruit with four-start center Joel Embiid's verbal commitment on Tuesday before the early signing period began. Kansas beat out Florida and Texas, moving the Jayhawks 2013 class to second behind the Kentucky Wildcats
Embiid, who is currently not in the ESPN 100, will likely make the list when the rankings are re-evaluated in January. The 6-foot-11 native of Cameroon switched high schools this year, going from Montverde (Fla.) Academy to The Rock School (Gainesville, Fla.).
A number of factors led to Embiid choosing Kansas, including a recent visit and a vote of confidence from Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, a fellow native of Cameroon. Still young and relatively new to basketball, Embiid is still learning and developing as a big man.
Last season, the Jayhawks garnered a No. 2 seed heading into the NCAA tournament and reached the finals before losing to national champion Kentucky.
