The Kansas City Royals announced the signing of four minor league players, via a press release Friday. In addition to the previously reported Brandon Wood, the Royals also signed Anthony Ortega, Brian Sanches and Atahualpa Severino.
Ortega, a 27-year old right-handed pitcher, is currently pitching for Tiburones de La Guaira of the Venezuelan Winter League, per the press release. Ortega is recovering from Tommy John surgery which caused him to miss the 2012 season.
Sanches, a 34-year old right-handed pitcher, was the Royals' second round selection in 1999. Sanches pitched in various levels of the Royals system until he was traded in 2003.
Severino is a 28-year old left-handed reliever who recorded a 2.81 ERA for Syracuse, the Washington Nationals triple-A affiliate. Severino joined the Nationals for six games in 2012, posting a 3.86 ERA and a 1-0 record.
The Royals plan to announce 2013 Spring Training invitations at a later date.
