Nebraska-Southern Miss could play at Arrowhead Stadium

Nebraska and Southern Miss' 2013 date could be closer to Cornhuskers fans than originally thought.

For those without Google Maps, Kansas City is much closer to Nebraska than it is to Hattiesburg, Miss. Yet when the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Southern Miss Golden Eagles meet next season on Sept. 7, 2013, in what is scheduled to be a Southern Miss home game, it could be in Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium, according to Omaha.com.

The game was appeared to be headed to the Superdome in New Orleans, which would figure to draw much more Southern Mississippi fans, but Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne talked to Kansas City Chiefs officials with Arrowhead earlier this week about having the game there. Osborne said a deal could be struck some time in the next three weeks. And there's a chance the game could still wind up in Hattiesburg, since it's a USM home game.

The game isn't the draw it looked like it would be last year, when Southern Miss won Conference USA. This season under new coach Ellis Johnson, the Golden Eagles have faltered to an 0-9 record.
