Big honors for Kansas St. Wildcats guard Rodney McGruder as he's named to the preseason Wooden Award watch list. Fifty players are selected to the list before every season.

The 6'4 senior from Washington, DC finished last season averaging a team high 15.8 points per game while connecting on 38.5 percent of his three point attempts. McGruder also shot 80 percent from the charity stripe.

The Wildcats will need to lean heavily on McGruder again if they hope to repeat their trip to the NCAA Tournament from last season. The Wildcats lost in the third round of the tournament to the Syracuse Orange 75-59. The Wildcats also return third leading scorer Will Spradling and fourth leading scorer Angel Rodriguez to help shoulder the load.

The Wooden Award is annually given to the best men's and women's basketball player in the NCAA as voted on by the media. Freshman and transfers are not eligible for the preseason list but can be added to the midseason or final list and eventually win. Freshman Anthony Davis from Kentucky won the award last season before declaring for the NBA Draft.
