Defender Yann Songo'o signs with Sporting KC

Sporting KC shores up an already stout defense with the youngster from Cameroon.

Sporting KC allowed just 27 goals in 34 regular season games last season thanks to a strong defense. They're not satisfied to sit pat though as they went out and signed defender Yann Songo'o. Songo'o last played for Pobla de Mafumet FC in Spain where he signed in January of this year.

Songo'o has spent time playing for a couple of national squads in his native Cameroon. He was a member of the Cameroon squad at the 2011 African Youth Championship in addition to be a member of the U-20 team at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

"We had him train with us last summer and we feel he is a talented, young player with a big upside," Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said in a release.

The terms of Songo'o deal were not disclosed, and Songo'o must obtain a P1 Visa and ITC before Sporting KC can officially add him to the roster. Songo'o will be joining the same league his brother in the MLS. Franck Songo'o plays midfield for the Portland Timbers.
