Marquel Combs lands with Kansas football recruiting class

The top-ranked junior college prospect adds to a promising Kansas recruiting class, which currently consists of 23 commitments.

US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas Jayhawks have the nation's top junior college prospect in Marquel Combs, who was ranked No. 1 in ESPN's list of the top 100 JUCO football recruits on Tuesday.

Combs announced his commitment to Kansas last week and is one of two four-star prospects in the Jayhawks recruiting class. The defensive tackle played at Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, Calif.

Kansas' class consists of 23 total commitments and 16 from junior college players, ranking it 31st by Rivals.com, ahead of Big 12 programs West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU, Kansas State and Texas Tech.

The Jayhawks could potentially add another top JUCO player in Josiah St. John from Trinity Valley C.C. The offensive tackle is ranked No. 6 in ESPN's list and has Kansas as a finalist.

Charlie Weis' recruiting efforts are promising considering the struggles the Jayhawks had in his first season as head coach in 2012. After winning its opener, Kansas dropped 11-straight games to end the season winless in the Big 12.
