Dayton 500 2012: Race Expected To Begin At 12:01 P.M. ET On Monday

The Daytona 500 will be having its first ever Monday race as steady rain forced the Great American Race to a scheduled 12:01 p.m. ET start. However, the weather looks worse on Monday then it did on Sunday. The current projected weather conditions call for rain over night and increase to 50 percent at 4 a.m. and actually increase into the morning and throughout race time. At 12 p.m. ET through 3 p.m. ET the weather forecast projects a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms, and rain is expected throughout the night. If these projections stand pat the odds of the Daytona 500 actually starting on time tomorrow seem slim.

SBNation.com contributor Brian Neudorff, who is a meteorologist, says the best time for the race to go would be in the evening hours on Monday. Tuesday would be ideal since weather is to clear up, but that may not be possible to run a race and allow crews to be ready for next week's race in Phoenix.

The race is still going to be broadcast on FOX at 12 p.m. ET
