Kansas City is in the market for a veteran catcher after starter Sal Perez suffered a knee injury that required surgery. Perez will be sidelined for about three months and will miss opening day. Brayan Pena will assume the starting position but the Royals have been looking for a veteran presence to pair with Pena.
Whether or not the Royals made an offer to Rodriguez and were rejected or simply decided not to make an offer is unknown. Rodriguez suffered through an injury plagued 2011 season with the Washington Nationals.
