UMKC Women's Basketball Advances To Summit League Championship

Coach Candace Whitaker's UMKC Kangaroos are one step closer to their first NCAA Tournament berth after defeating Western Illinois 71-56 on Monday evening in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This marks just the second time in the program's history they have advanced to the conference title game.

In their only previous trip to the Summit League Championship they fell to Oral Roberts 48-42 in 2005.

South Dakota State stands in the way, as the Jackrabbits ran past IUPUI 79-54 in the other semifinal. SDSU, 23-8 on the season, was the regular season conference champion and has been to three consecutive NCAA tournaments. They are 11-0 all-time in conference tournament games since joining the league.

UMKC will take a 22-10 record in the final, which can be seen on ESPNU at 3 pm on Tuesday. In two previous matches, the 'Roos lost by 13 and six to the Jackrabbits.
