The Masters has been particularly kind to Tom Watson over the years, and the two-time champion is hoping for some more luck later in life as the 2012 Masters draws near to official tee times this thursday. The pairings have been officially announced and Watson is going to take to the tee on Thursday morning at 8:40am CT with Group 11.
Watson’s group includes Hideki Matsuyama and Johnson Wagner and is by far the most successful and experienced of his threesome. Wagner is a 32-year-old pro whose best finish at Augusta is 38th in 2008. He does, however, have a couple of tour wins already this year, including the Sony Open. Matsuyama is a 20-year-old who won the Asian Amateur to earn an automatic bid into the Masters. He also made the Masters in 2011 as well.
Other notables include Tiger Woods in Group 15 (four after Watson), Lee Westwood in Group 27 and Fred Couples in Group 29. Craig Stadler helps lead off the 2012 Masters in Group 1.
