Kansas' 2nd-Place Finish In Big 12 Outdoor Track Best in School History

The Kansas men have won 33 conference championships in outdoor track and field and a couple dozen more indoor championships, but the Jayhawk women have never really ever challenged for a conference championship in the sport.

That all changed this year at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, where the Jayhawk women’s track and field squad finished second to champion Texas. It was the highest finish for Kansas’ women’s team in a conference track and field championship in school history.

Kansas actually led after the second day of competition, but the Longhorn women pulled ahead on Day 3 and edged out the Jayhawks by 9.5 points. Texas A&M, which was gunning for a sixth consecutive outdoor championship, finished third. The Missouri women came in seventh and Kansas State finished in an 8th-place tie with Iowa State.

Texas A&M won the men’s outdoor title for the second year in succession, finishing ahead of Texas and Oklahoma. Kansas State was fourth, Kansas tied for seventh and Missouri was 10th.

The Kansas women won five individual titles on their way to a runner-up finish.
