The fastest two minutes in sports is this weekend, as the 2012 Kentucky Derby will be held at the illustrious Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Post positions for the 20 horse field have been announced, and the two favorites Bodemeister and Union Rags, both given 9/2 odds to win, are in good position.

Here are the post positions for the entire field:

  1. Daddy Long Legs
  2. Optimizer
  3. Take Charge Indy
  4. Union Rags
  5. Dullahan
  6. Bodemeister
  7. Rousing Sermon
  8. Creative Cause
  9. Trinniberg
  10. Daddy Nose Best
  11. Alpha
  12. Perspective
  13. Went The Day Well
  14. Hansen
  15. Gemologist
  16. El Padrino
  17. Done Talking
  18. Sabercat
  19. I'll Have Another
  20. Liaison
For reference, the lower the number, the closer you are to the rail, so Daddy Long Legs will open out of the gate the closest to the rail, and Liaison will start furthest to the outside. Typically, it's better to start closer to the rail, but Big Brown won the 2008 Kentucky Derby from the No. 20 post position.
