After a wild Day 1 of the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament, the upsets keep coming on Day 2.
In early morning action Wednesday, fifth seed Evansville knocked off top seed Indiana State 8-5, eliminating the Sycamores from the Tournament.
The Purple Aces came out hot, with two runs in the first and five in the second, giving themselves a comfortable 7-0 lead to protect against a desperate Indiana State team. Dakota Bacus, their pitcher, was roughed up early and often, and he ended the day giving up eight runs and 11 hits in six innings.
The Sycamores made it interesting late, getting two runs in the third and three runs in the eighth, but it wasn't enough to save their chances. They became the first MVC team in over two decades to win the regular season championship and lose the first two games of the conference tournament.
