2012 MVC Baseball Tournament: Creighton Defeats Illinois State, 11-5

It was a battle of the birds on Wednesday at the Missouri Valley Tournament in Springfield, Mo. as the eighth seeded Creighton Blue Jays took on the fourth seeded Illinois State Redbirds and scored another big upset, winning the game by a final score of 11-5.

Creighton, who finished last in the MVC during the regular season, going 6-14 in conference play and 24-28 overall, had already knocked off top seeded Indiana State on the first day of the tournament. They continued their improbable run by defeating an Illinois State team who finished fourth in the conference at 10-9 but had a strong year overall going 32-18.

For the Blue Jays, Shane Liska was the winning pitcher as he went six full innings and gave up five hits and two earned runs while walking just one batter and striking out six. Chance Ross and Mike Gerber each had three RBI's to lead the Creighton offense.
