Oklahoma Softball Pitching Ace Named USA Collegiate Player Of The Year

Oklahoma junior Keilani Ricketts has been named the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

The Big 12 Player of the Year dominates on the defensive end and is one of top-ten-ranked OU’s best offensive players as well. Ricketts is fifth in the country this season with an 0.99 earned run average and third in strikeouts with 353. She is 33-7 on the mound for the Sooners this year.

At the plate, Ricketts is 11th in the country with a .558 on-base percentage and 13th with a .841 slugging percentage.

Ricketts is the first Oklahoma softball player to earn the prestigious honor and the second in Big 12 history (Cat Osterman of Texas won the award three times – in 2003, ’05, and ’06. The Sooner star was the only one of the three finalists for the award to lead her team in both pitching and hitting.

Oklahoma is on its way to the Womens' College World Series after sweeping its super regional with Arizona, allowing the Wildcats just one run in two games. It will be the Sooners' seventh trip to the WCWS, which gets under way on Friday in Oklahoma City.
