Of the 15 gymnasts who will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team at the men’s gymnastics Olympic Trials in late June in San Jose, Calif., five are current or former athletes from the University of Oklahoma.
Olympic silver medalist Jonathan Horton, who graduated from OU in 2008, joins current junior and 2012 NCAA all-around champion and former Sooner gymnasts Chris Brooks, Steven Legendre and Alex Naddour were named to the U.S. National Team over the weekend as a result of their individual performances in the Visa Championships.
The Visa Championships feature the country’s best gymnasts competing for national titles and spots on the U.S. National Team in both men’s and women’s gymnastics. Members of the U.S. National Team automatically qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Of the seven members of the 2011 U.S. World Team, the same five past and present Sooners were part of that team.
