Webb Simpson came back from four strokes back to win the 2012 U.S. Open to win his first major championship. Simpson started Sunday four strokes back of the leaders and then proceeded to shoot a solid 2-under on the day, and finished the tournament at 1-over par.
Simpson started slowly by bogeying the No. 2 and No. 5 hole before going on a hot streak and scoring a birdie on his next three holes and four of five.
Simpson edged out Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson by just one stroke, and Jim Furyk who was leading the entire final round until the end ended up shooting 4-over par. Furyk really fell apart when he scored a bogey on hole No. 16 and 18, and ended up finishing 3-over for the tournament and in a tie for fourth place.
This is Simpson's third career professional victory and first ever major championship.
