The 2012 MLB Draft is happening on June 4 so the mock drafts are making some last minute adjustments for their predictions. The consensus for the Royals is that they will be taking a starting pitcher with their No. 5 pick. ESPN's Keith Law has his third mock draft out and he sticks with having the Royals taking a starting pitcher.
In Law's prior mock draft he had the Royals taking LSU starting pitcher Kevin Gausman, but this time around he has them taking Kyle Zimmer, but adds the caveat that the Royals have many options with this pick:
Kyle Zimmer, RHP, San Francisco
This pick could be Gausman if he's here or California prep left-hander Max Fried. Florida high school righty Lance McCullers Jr., who had a strong finish to the season, remains a possibility.
Over at SB Nation's Minor League Ball, they have their latest prospect rankings out and they have Zimmer ranked at No. 2 and say he is "very athletic, throws hard, throws strikes, good secondary pitches, good delivery."
