Four players from the Big 12 Conference have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American Team. Nine more players were named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region Team.
Oklahoma State pitching ace Andrew Heaney, who was just recently the top pick of the Miami Marlins and ninth pick overall in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, was the lone member of the Big 12 to be named to the ABCA All-America First Team. Heaney was the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year this season, with an 8-2 record in 15 starts and an ERA of 1.60. He also has been honored as an All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The three other players from the Big 12 honored as ABCA All-Americans are a pair of Joshes and both from Baylor, catcher Josh Ludy and pitcher Josh Turley, and Texas A&M outfielder Tyler Naquin. Ludy and Naquin were named to the second team and Turley was a third-team selection.
Ludy batted .362 with 16 home runs and 71 RBI this season in helping lead Baylor to a Big 12 regular-season championship and a spot in the NCAA Super Regionals, just missing out on a trip to the College World Series. Ludy also was the Player of the Year in the conference. Naquin led the conference in hitting with a .380 average and was A&M's most productive offensive player. He was the Big 12 Player of the Year a year ago in his sophomore season.
Turley compiled a 9-1 record in 2012 for Baylor, with a 1.96 ERA in 110 innings pitched. His 1.96 ERA was the fifth lowest by a Baylor pitcher in the aluminum-bat era., and his winning percentage was the best by a junior in school history.
Ludy is the only senior among the Big 12 ABCA All-American honorees, The remaining three were juniors this season.
