Clint Bowyer survived a late restart to win the Toyota Save/Mart 350 at Sonoma on Sunday. Bowyer led 71 of 112 laps while capturing his first win of the 2012 season and his first with Michael Waltrip racing.
Tony Stewart finished second ahead of Kurt Busch, Brian Vickers and Jimmie Johnson. Jeff Gordon recovered from running out of gas and finished sixth. Bowyer's teammate Martin Truex Jr. also ran a strong race before spinning out on the last lap and falling all the way back to 22nd. Dale Earnhardt Jr. crashed on the final restart and finished 23rd one week after his win in Michigan.
Michael Waltrip had to be pleased with his team's performance at Sonoma. Bowyer winning and with Vickers finishing fourth it gave Waltrip two cars in the top five. He could have had three cars in the top 10 before Truex's late spin pushed him back in the field.
