Royals Vs. Rays: Luke Hochevar Throws Complete Game Shutout

For only the second time in his major league career, Luke Hochevar threw a complete game shutout, as the Royals topped the Rays, 8-0, on Monday night.

Hochevar was brilliant allowing seven hits and one walk, while striking out eight batters. He needed 113 pitches to earn the victory.

His opposite number, Alex Cobb, threw one of the worst complete games you'll ever see. Cobb went eight innings and gave up 13 hits and eight runs.

Doing the damage at dish for the Royals was Eric Hosmer, who went two-for-four with a home run and two RBI. Yuniesky Betancourt had three RBi in the win. Two of those RBI came in a five-run fifth inning that broke the game open.

The Royals will try to take the series tomorrow when Bruce Chen (6-6, 4.81 ERA) faces off against Chris Archer (0-1, 1.50 ERA).
