Sean Dougherty, head golf professional at Milburn Country Club and a regular participant in the annual Watson Challenge, recognizing the top golfers in the Kansas City area, finished tied for 36th in the PGA National Championshipp held this week at the Bayonet and Black Horses Golf Courses in Northern California.
↵The Milburn pro shot a score of six-over-par 294 in the four-day national championship for largely country club professionals and teaching pros.
↵Matt Dobyns, a 34-year-old professional from Lake Success, N.Y., was the tournament champion, with a winning score of 13-under 275, eight shots better than runners-up Kelly Mitchum and Rod Perry..
↵Dougherty missed the top-20-and-ties cut line that would have qualified him for a spot in this year’s PGA Championship in August, to be held at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, S.C.
