The University of Texas cashed in an 18-foot birdie putt by senior Dylan Fritelli to defeat the team from Alabama in match play and win the Longhorns third national championship in golf and first in 40 years.

↵Alabama sophomore Bobby Wyatt had just evened the match a hole earlier with a dramatic 17-foot putt of his own, which took the match right down to the final hole at historic Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.↵

The last time Texas won a national title in golf was in back-to-back years of 1971and 1972 on teams that featured the likes of highly successful PGA Tour professionals Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite.
