2012 MLB Draft: Kansas City Royals Select LHP Colin Rodgers In Round 3

With their third round selection, the Kansas City Royals once again took another pitcher, this time it was left-handed high school pitcher Colin Rodgers from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Auburn signee is 6'0" 180 lbs and throws a plus curveball. He throws a low 90's fastball, and is projected to stay as a starter if he can continue to show progression on his changeup.

Rodgers was named a Third Team All-American during the pre-season by Rawlings and Perfect Game. Baseball America had him as the 207th ranked overall player.

Early on, we can see that pitching has continued to be the focus, with the Royals having now selected a right-hander in Kyle Zimmer, followed by two left-handed pitchers.

Rodgers will be an interesting player to see if he signs, being a high school player taken in the third round. However, Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis talked about on the live draft show on MLB.com, that many of these teams must have contacted the high school players and gave their figures to see if they would sign.

Stayed tuned for continued coverage, while also heading to Royals Review or more day long draft coverage.
