2012 MLB Draft: Kansas City Royals Select Alabama HS Pitcher Zach Lovvorn In Round 6

After a short break, the Kansas City Royals selected Oxford, Alabama pitcher Zach Lovvorn with the fifth pick in the sixth round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

Lovvorn, 6'1" 195 lbs is a right-hander that is currently committed to Samford. He was actually the third pitcher in his high school rotation as the two above him are signed with Florida and Alabama respectively.

Lovvorn started rising up the draft boards after a strong showing in the National High School Invitational. This lead him to being ranked as the 242nd overall prospect by Baseball America coming into the draft.

He features a mid 90's fastball that has some movement, along with an average slider and changeup.

Look for Lovvorn to be another reasonably signable pick much like the Royals fifth round selection, catcher Chad Johnson from Galesburg, Illinois.

It will be interesting to see what college names the Royals go for between now and round ten.
