2012 MLB Draft: Who Is Sam Selman? Meet The Newest Kansas City Royals Pitcher

Much like Kansas City Royals first round selection Kyle Zimmer, Vanderbilt left-handed pitcher Sam Selman is an unusual college pitcher in that they both don't have quite the wear on their arms in comparison to most college pitchers.

Selman, who was drafted in the 14th round out of high school by the Los Angeles of Anaheim Angels, was 9-3 with a 3.57 ERA for the Commodores this season, leading the club in victories while also tying for the lead in strikeouts (he had 79 in 75.2 innings).

Our friends over at Anchor of Gold recently wrote about Selman's path to becoming a second round selection. In a recent May 24th outing against Florida, Selman went six innings, pitching a two-hit shutout. He would strike out seven.

It certainly looks like Selman has a history of walking guys, but if he can work on those command issues, the Royals may have found a pitcher for the future. We know Selman has already faced the best competition the college game provides.
