Every Big 12 School Is Represented In NCAA Track & Field Championships

All ten Big 12 schools are represented with both men and women athletes competing in the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held through Saturday at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Every Big 12 team has at least one entry in both the men’s and women’s division of the championship, led by Texas, with 12 male entries and 11 on the women’s side. Several of the entries are competing in more than one event.

The Texas A&M men and women have won the NCAA Outdoor Championship for three consecutive years and is hoping for a four-peat in both divisions.

A&M has 20 total entries between the men and women combined, and Kansas has 16 total entries, including 11 women, six of which are entered in field events.

Coming into the NCAA Championships, five men’s and five women’s teams from the Big 12 are nationally ranked. On the men’s side, Texas A&M is ranked No. 1, Texas is No. 4, Texas Tech 11th, Kansas 20th and Oklahoma 25th. The Kansas women are the top-ranked team in the nation, followed by A&M fourth, Texas in sixth, Oklahoma ninth and Texas Tech at No. 22.

The A&M men are the only Big 12 men’s team to win a national championship in outdoor track and field, while the Big 12 women have won seven times.
