2012 Olympic Medal Count: USA Ties China For Lead On Monday

The Americans tied the medal count with China on Monday at the Olympics in London with a really solid day in the swimming pool, although the popular Ryan Lochte had yet another disappointing performance.

Lochte, the favorite to win the 200m freestyle race on Monday, placed fourth, while Yannick Agnel of France took the gold. Fortunately for the Americans, Matt Grevers and Nick Thorman took the gold and silver medals in the men's 100m backstroke.

Take a look at the top five in the medal count right here:

China, 17 (9 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze)
United States, 17 (5, 7, 5)
Japan, 11 (1, 4, 6)
Italy, 8 (2, 4, 2)
France, 7 (3, 1, 3)

It's also worth noting the only team beyond that top five with three gold medals is North Korea; Great Britain moved into a five-way tie for ninth with its third medal.
