When Andy Murray jumped out to an early lead on Federer by winning the first set of the WImbledon Final, the British crowd thought they were on the verge of witnessing their hometown hero on to victory. Then Roger Federer happened, the rain came, and Roger Federer happened some more for Wimbledon title number seven.
After dropping the first set, Federer took just 40 minutes in the second set to beat Murray 7-5. Then the rain came after the first game in the third. Wimbledon officials closed the center-court roof and invoked a 40-minute rain delay. Once play resumed in the third set, Federer calmed down and relaxed to win the third set over Murray for a 6-3 third-set victory and Federer was one set away from another Wimbledon title.
In the fourth set, both Federer and Murray traded game winners as both were on the fringe of victory and defeat. Federer stayed one step ahead of Murray and with crafty play and playing mistake-free tennis was able to gain the advantage. Even with the home crowd vocally supporting Murray's final chances, Federer stood tall and with a 6-4 set win he now owns the record for most Wimbledon titles in Tennis history with seven.
