Team USA Basketball Defeats Spain: Gold Medal In Books At London Olympics

The closing ceremonies are just around the corner in London for the 2012 Summer Olympic games, but not before the United States could put up another impressive display as Team USA men's basketball defeated Spain 107 to 100 in a game that was close as it was expected to be.

While the U.S. has been criticized at times for not being able to dominate opponents on the national stage as some would like to see, it speaks to the growth of international competition that these games have been as close as they have.

The U.S. was up early 35-27 after the first quarter but Spain came rolling back in the second quarter to make it only a one point lead for the Americans at halftime. The two then tied in the third quarter at 24 points apiece to bring it down to the wire in a thrilling game. However Team USA finally began to pull ahead in the end.

Kevin Durant led all scorers in the game with 30 points, while Pau Gasol led Spain in the losing effort with 24 points. Serge Ibaka had 12 points and 9 rebounds for Spain.
