2012 MLS Standings: Sporting KC Takes Eastern Conference Lead

Sporting KC took sole possession of first place of the MLS Eastern Conference with a 2-1 win over DC United on Saturday.

Sporting KC took sole possession of the MLS Eastern Conference lead with a 2-1 win over fifth-place DC United on Saturday. Graham Zusi sent home the game-winner in the 63rd minute, in front of a home crowd of over 20,000 fans in Kansas City.

Yhe game was tied at halftime, but the hometown fans were finally able to enjoy a win with Zusi's goal. Sporting KC had gone four home games and nearly two months since seeing KC post a win at Livestrong Sporting Park.

With 24 games complete and 10 left to play, Sporting KC (13-7-4, 43 points) now has a two-point lead in the standings over the New York Red Bulls (12-7-5), who defeated the Houston Dynamo last Friday. As a result, the Dynamo (11-6-7) sit one point behind New York. While Sporting KC has just one game left against Houston, the Red Bulls are on the KC's schedule three more times, so the club should have every opportunity to control its own destiny.
