The Kansas Jayhawks football program received a major commitment from a recruit Tuesday, as offensive tackle Joey Bloomfield of Louisville, Ky. announced his verbal pledge to be a Jayhawk via Twitter. Bloomfield, a member of the Class of 2013, has been rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, and chose Kansas over schools like Houston, San Diego St. and Colorado.

According to Bloomfield, he called Kansas head coach Charlie Weis and offensive line coach Tim Grunhard Tuesday to deliver the news.

"They were ecstatic, just about the same as my reaction," said Bloomfield, a 6-foot-6, 295-pound senior. "I'm so blessed to be in this situation and so excited. Words can't describe."

"… I can't believe it's a reality, and I can't wait to get out there. … People dream of playing in the Big 12 (Conference), and I got that opportunity."

Bloomfield said the Jayhawks plan on using him at tackle or guard.
