The U.S. Open Golf Championship is already in the books for this year, but the U.S. Open in tennis will be up for grabs in just a couple of weeks, and Jack Sock, who won four Kansas State singles titles while at Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, will be among those in the field.
Sock, a native Nebraskan, earned one of the U.S. Open wild-card entries on Tuesday. It will be Sock’s second straight year competing in the Open.
A year ago, he became the first U.S. Tennis Association 18-and-under winner to win a first-round match at the U.S. Open. He lost in the second round to a fellow Nebraskan, but won the mixed doubles championship with partner Melanie Oudin.
The U.S. Open Tennis Championship will get under way Aug. 27 and run through Sept. 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
