Ricky Stanzi Promoted To No. 2 Quarterback For Chiefs Next Game

Former fifth-round pick Ricky Stanzi will get his chance to earn the role as the primary backup behind Matt Cassel on Saturday, as he'll get most of the snaps with the second-string against the St. Louis Rams:

Stanzi, a 6'4 230 QB from Iowa, had a redshirt year as a rookie, learning the intricacies of the NFL game while not attempting a single pass.

This pre-season will be his first chance to show that he learned something as he attempts to beat out former Notre Dame star Brady Quinn, now on his third NFL team.

It's not exactly the most high-profile QB competition in the world, but Chiefs fans, more than most, know the importance of the backup QB position after they suffered through the Tyler Palko disaster in 2011.
