Royals Vs. Athletics Score Update: Royals Down 2-1 After 5

The Kansas City Royals are looking to build off Tuesday's 5-0 win against the Oakland Athletics in the second game of their series at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night. After five innings, though, they trail Oakland 2-1.

Kansas City has struggled to get its offense going. Its lone run came in the first inning, when Billy Butler grounded into a fielder's choice and Alcides Escobar scored.

The Athletics tied it up in the second inning on a Brandon Moss RBI-single and Josh Donaldson hit a solo home run in the fourth to put Oakland up 2-1.

Through five, Royals starter Will Smith has given up four hits and two runs and struck out four. Oakland's Brandon McCarthy has given up three hits and one run and struck out three.
